Rokko-san is actually a group of mountains called the Rokko mountains (the highest peak: 931m) and they are a part of the Seto Inland Sea National Park. The mountains stretch from the west end of Kobe to Takarazuka city. Viewed from the sea, this mountain range soars into the sky like a high lengthy green wall. In the national park, there are many hiking trails leading you to many peaks. Along the paths in June, you can see a lot of hydrangeas blooming. If you are lucky, you can find a very precious type called Shichidan, the phantom mountain hydrangea.

Beautiful hydrangeas and the lighting and coloring on the water is sublime.

Hydrangeas where popular in Sydney in the deco period (1920-30). The houses built in that time have a deep iron red bricks and the Hydrangeas are planted close to the front walls. They feel out of fashion and so are know as "old lady flowers". My boyfriend is Dutch and then lived in Tokyo for 10 years before coming here. He feel in love with hydrangeas and the warm rainy season in Japan and so has always had hydrangeas in his garden- his friends joked about his love of "old lady flowers".
We moved to a deco house a couple of years ago and decided to plant some deco flowers among the Australian natives. We have two different hydrangeas and 3 magnolias (another deco favourite). Although some are not doing so well as our summer are very hot and dry.
It must be a delightful trip for a day, spending time among the blooming heads and watching life going on by the pond.....why, you can charge you batteries for the entire rainy season!
I like the photos, they bring a soothing feeling to the viewer!

４年ほど前に六甲に行った時、霧の中に浮かんだり沈んだりする紫陽花の花群が印象的でした。高山植物園の近くですよね。懐かしい思い出が蘇りました。

Oh I didn't know that hydrangeas are called "old lady flowers" in your country. It sounds very romantic. I'd love to see your hydrangeas along with the 3 magnolias!!

Thanks! You love hydrangeas, don't you? Rokko-san has so many hydrangeas. My house in Kobe is at the foot of the mountain and around my house, many hydrangeas are also in bloom at present.

ありがとうございます。場所は高山植物園の近くではなく、森林植物園のほうです。ものすごく広くて中にハイキングコースがいくつか通っていて高山植物園のほうへも摩耶や他の登山ルートへも抜けられます。久しぶりにハイキングしてちょっとバテ気味（笑）
サファイアさんらしい素敵な写真です。
今年の新聞に六甲山（甲山でしたか？）にイノシシが出没して、ハイカーが負傷する事件が何件かあったようですが、その心配はありませんでしたか？
甲山といえば、うん十年前その近くの学生だった時には絶好のハイキングコースでした。
六甲にも何回か行ったことがありますが、こんなにたくさんのアジサイが咲くとは知りませんでした。

ありがとうございます。神戸に３日ほど用事で帰っていたので、ハイキングのついでに撮りました。 イノシシ、おりまする！ウチの近所の川には何頭もすごいのがたむろしていますし、春にはウリボウを連れて川を行進しています。裏山ではしょっちゅう出会います。みんな慣れっこです。地元では誰も騒ぎません。よそからのハイカーの方は慣れていないので大騒ぎになるようですね。紫陽花はたくさん六甲に咲いています。希少種もありますが、市ががんばって植えたこともあってきれいです。

へえ～ そうなんですか。かなりワイルド？な所なんですね(＾＾） 私の実家は 田舎に（ど）がつくような高原ですが、イノシシは実際目にした事はありません。いるのは確かなようですが。ハイカーによれば、歩いていたら突進してきたということですが、やはり驚いたんでしょうね。
山歩きの時もまだ遭遇した事はないんですが、出会ってしまったらちょっと固まるかも。「さりげなく」がいいんでしょうね。

ハイ、「さりげなく」でございます。甲山も六甲山系なので、いるのかも。そういえば、登ったことがないなぁ。 六甲の山は割とたくさん踏破しております。自慢にならないですね、千ｍを切った山ばかりですから(笑）
I seem to have missed this lovely, precious post. Precious...because it reminds me of many things in my youth. I don't remember how many times I went on a hike as a school activity as well as personal. I haven't been to Shinrin Shokubutsu-en since it got organized as it is now. I'd like to visit there next year at hydrangeas season while being contented with these wonderful photos of yours this time. I especially like it when blue skies are reflected on the water. What are the pink or white petals other than water lily pads?
猪といえば、実家の墓が芦屋霊園にあるのですが、お墓参りのたびにであいますよ。芦屋といえば、芦屋のロックガーデンからも六甲登山しました。最近テレビでファッショナブルな山ガールたちが、岩場を登って行くのをみました。低い山といってもあなどれませんよね？haricotさんの書いておられるように、下界は晴れでも、上は霧ということもよくありました。なつかしいなぁ。母のサポートに毎週神戸（御影）へ行っているのですが、なかなか遊びには行けません。紫陽花は来年のお楽しみにとっておいて、今年の夏は六甲山で遊ぼうかな？

Thanks for reading this post. When you visit the forests next year, don't forget to eat soft serve ice cream there. It is really delicious!! I suppose the pink ones are waterlilies.
本当にいたるところにイノシシいますよね。ウチのあたりでは住宅地を夜中徘徊しています。イノシシ条例でエサをやってはいけないことになっているのに、ペット扱いでやっている困ったちゃんもいて...ただ他県ではすぐ猟銃会出動で射殺というところもあるようで、それもひどい話だと思います。毎週神戸に帰られるんですね。阪神が直通になって便利になったものの、大変でしょ？くれぐれもお大事になさってくださいね。ｐ
優しいお言葉ありがとうございます。母も90歳。二度の大腿骨骨折（右、2年後に左）をのりこえ、なんとか家の中を歩ける幸せを感じています。帰りの電車では爆睡しています。:)
先日さっそくハーブ園に行ってきました。またアプデートします。震災後ずいぶん変わりましたが、やはり神戸は神戸。機会を見つけて楽しむようにします。ありがとう。
